Common blood pressure drugs linked to 33% higher kidney risk in type 2 diabetes patients
A new study found that dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers (DCCBs), a widely prescribed class of blood pressure medications, were associated with a 33% higher risk of serious kidney problems in people with type 2 diabetes, even when they were already taking kidney-protective drugs. The finding is prompting researchers to question whether DCCBs should always be the default second-line treatment for diabetic kidney disease.
