Record numbers of swift chicks died in Polish cities during this year's heatwave

This year's heatwave caused the deaths of a record number of swift chicks in Polish cities, far exceeding losses from previous years. The birds jumped out of their nests in an attempt to escape the heat and perished. Urban wildlife rehabilitation centres were overwhelmed and struggled to take in all the injured and weakened chicks.
