Polish scientists use dendrochronology to date ancient timber at King Midas's city Gordion
A team of Polish scientists has conducted dendrochronological analyses at Gordion, an Iron Age archaeological site in central Anatolia that served as the capital of the Phrygian kingdom and the legendary city of King Midas. The method precisely dates ancient timber by analysing annual tree-ring growth patterns. Their findings have been published in the journal Dendrochronologia. Gordion was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2023.
