US cuts joint South Korea drills short by six days
South Korea's joint chiefs of staff confirmed that the Ulchi Freedom Shield exercise, which began Monday, will end Friday 21 August — six days ahead of schedule — at the US's request. The decision follows Donald Trump's push to scale back joint drills with Seoul. The move is seen as part of broader US efforts to revive diplomatic talks with North Korea's Kim Jong-un.
