Harvard pays $53m settlement over theft and sale of donated human remains

Harvard University has agreed to a $53 million civil settlement over the illegal theft and sale of human remains donated to its medical school for scientific research. Former morgue manager Cedric Lodge, 58, was sentenced in December to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to stealing and selling body parts — including organs, skin, brains and dissected heads — between 2018 and at least March 2020. The scheme was nationwide in scope.
