Dismissed Ukrainian defence minister calls for wartime presidential election
Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine's recently dismissed defence minister, has called for a presidential election to be held despite the ongoing war with Russia. In a video address released Tuesday evening, he said Ukraine must "restore a full democratic process even amid a prolonged war." It is the most direct political challenge to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy since Russia's full-scale invasion began in 2022. Fedorov's abrupt dismissal last month had already triggered a wave of protests.
