Wi-Fi can identify people with nearly 100% accuracy — no cameras needed

Researchers at KASTEL, the security institute at KIT, have shown that ordinary Wi-Fi networks can be repurposed to identify individuals without cameras, sensors or their knowledge. In tests on 197 volunteers, the system achieved nearly 100% identification accuracy regardless of viewing angle or gait. The technique exploits beamforming feedback information — signals that connected devices routinely send back to a router — requiring no additional hardware.
