Cherokee Nation bans data centers on tribal lands over water and noise concerns

The Cherokee Nation has banned hyperscale data center construction on its tribal lands, covering roughly 6,963 square miles across 14 Oklahoma counties. A task force led by Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. found that 64% of 1,593 surveyed citizens opposed such projects. A 37-page report highlighted concerns over water consumption, air quality, noise and cultural resource protection. Data center projects on non-tribal land will also be denied Cherokee support without early consultation.
