Tarling's death highlights dangers of smaller cycling races where traffic can't be stopped

Former rider and team director Jonathan Vaughters warned that cyclists are risking their lives in smaller races where organisers struggle with huge costs and cycling's governing body "cannot keep traffic off the roads." His comments came following the death of Tarling during such an event. Vaughters argued that inadequate safety standards and funding gaps make smaller races particularly dangerous.
