Five years under Taliban rule: Afghan women plead for help as world looks away
Five years have passed since the Taliban seized Afghanistan on 15 August, and today nearly half the country's population is in need of humanitarian aid. Afghan women describe a life of complete exclusion from education, work and public life, with one woman named Mariam saying "all roads ahead of me have been locked — with locks whose keys have disappeared." The international community's attention to the crisis has largely faded.
