Ex-PlayStation boss shrugs off Sony's physical disc phase-out

Former PlayStation Studios president Shuhei Yoshida says he doesn't understand why Sony's decision to stop producing physical game discs from 2028 is "such a big issue," arguing players already need to download patches and extra data anyway. The announcement sparked massive backlash from consumers, developers and publishers over concerns about game preservation, ownership and the second-hand market. Despite the uproar, Sony CFO Lin Tao said the company sees no "negative impact on our business."
