Moroccan man dies in Italian police restraint as new security law shields officers from prosecution
Abderrahim Fakir died on 19 July in Bologna after being handcuffed and forcibly restrained by police on a street in the Pilastro neighbourhood. Video of his final moments spread rapidly across Italy. His case is the first in which Italy's new security law — which gives police greater protection from prosecution — has been invoked, drawing sharp criticism from rights advocates.
