Netherlands asks EU for flexibility on nitrogen rules to unblock housing construction
The Dutch government has asked the European Commission for greater flexibility in applying EU nature-protection rules. The Hague hopes this will allow the resumption of housing and industrial construction permits blocked by the country's nitrogen crisis. The Netherlands has for years struggled with nitrogen emission limits imposed by environmental regulations.
