South Korea moves to block Polymarket, calling it illegal gambling
South Korea's Korea Media and Communications Commission has moved to block Polymarket, ruling that the prediction market platform constitutes illegal gambling despite its noncustodial design and use of smart contracts. The regulator said the platform's structure and operations fall foul of Korean gambling laws regardless of its decentralised nature. Polymarket lets users bet on the outcomes of political and other events using cryptocurrency.
