Astronomers identify new type of cosmic object dubbed "little red dot"

Astronomers from MIT, working with researchers from Austria, Germany and Switzerland, have identified a new type of astrophysical object in the early universe called a "little red dot," designated MoM-BH*-. The object existed around 600 million years after the Big Bang, is roughly the size of our Solar System, yet emits billions of times more energy. The James Webb Space Telescope first captured such objects in 2022, and they were officially recognised in March 2024.
