James Webb Telescope detects water and dust near Milky Way's black hole Sagittarius A*

An international team of astronomers using the James Webb Space Telescope has detected traces of dust and water surprisingly close to the supermassive black hole Sagittarius A* at the centre of the Milky Way. The observations provided a rare look into one of the most extreme environments in our galaxy. The findings surprised researchers, as conditions near the black hole were thought to be far too harsh for such molecules.
