Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever spreading toward Europe as ticks move north

The Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) virus, listed as a priority pathogen by the WHO, is expanding toward Europe as climate warming and agricultural changes push its tick vectors further north. The virus was first described in 12th-century Tajikistan and later isolated during a 1944 epidemic among soldiers in Crimea. So far all European cases have been recorded in one country, but experts warn the situation could change rapidly.
