Sanctions expire TLS certificates for thousands of Russian domains, leaving banks and government exposed

Japanese certificate authority GlobalSign revoked TLS certificates for thousands of Russian domains in June as part of US and EU sanctions compliance. Seven major Russian banks are now running certificates from a state-owned root authority that no mainstream browser trusts, forcing users to install them manually. Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service says the gap leaves Russian banking, email and government systems significantly more vulnerable to cyberattacks.
