French public TV adapts Stendhal's "The Red and the Black" as a new miniseries

French public television has commissioned a new miniseries adaptation of Stendhal's classic novel "The Red and the Black." The story begins in 1828, following Julien Sorel, an ambitious son of a poor carpenter, as he tries to climb the social ladder during the turbulent final days of the French monarchy.
