Turkey to scrap $2.5 bn Russian S-400 systems as condition for buying F-35s
Turkey, which paid $2.5 billion for Russian S-400 missile systems, must dispose of them as a condition for US approval to purchase F-35 fighter jets. Ankara attempted to sell the systems to the United Arab Emirates, but that deal fell through, and the S-400s are now likely to be scrapped. The outcome represents a massive financial loss and a diplomatic setback for a purchase that strained Turkey's relations with NATO.
