Dutch coal power output this year already exceeds all of 2024

Dutch coal-fired power plants have already generated more electricity this year than in the whole of 2024, according to data from the Nationaal Energiedashboard cited by Het Financieele Dagblad. The surge is driven by high energy prices and growing electricity exports, particularly to Belgium. The trend marks a notable return to fossil fuels in Western Europe.
