1,700-year-old church found under Turkish lake may be site of First Council of Nicaea

Archaeologists have found the remains of a church dating back around 1,700 years beneath Lake İznik in Turkey, which may be the site of the First Council of Nicaea held in A.D. 325. The council, organised by Emperor Constantine I, brought together Christian bishops and produced the Nicene Creed. However, some independent experts dispute the identification of the site.
