Lavrov: Japan "crossed the line of decency" by criticising Putin's Kuril Islands visit

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has slammed Japan for what he called "totally unacceptable" statements following Vladimir Putin's visit to Iturup island, part of the disputed Kuril Islands. Lavrov accused Japan of crossing "the line of decency." Tokyo has long claimed sovereignty over parts of the Kuril archipelago, which is controlled by Russia.
