Venezuela seeks $4bn in gold from Bank of England to fund earthquake relief

After two weeks of US-brokered talks, Venezuela's government and opposition agreed to jointly seek the return of 31 tonnes of gold held by the Bank of England since 2018, worth around $4 billion. The funds are intended to finance reconstruction following June's earthquakes. The gold has been under British court jurisdiction since the UK disputed Maduro's legitimacy.
