New EU law lets investigators demand emails and cloud data from firms across the bloc

A new EU regulation that came into force on Tuesday allows prosecutors and courts to demand electronic evidence — including emails, cloud data and messenger communications — from digital service providers operating anywhere in the EU. The rules are designed to speed up criminal proceedings by removing barriers tied to where data is physically stored. The regulation covers digital platforms regardless of where they are headquartered within the bloc.
