Microsoft drops Excel's COPILOT() function after a year of testing — never fully launched

Microsoft is retiring the COPILOT() function in Excel, which allowed users to describe tasks in natural language as part of a spreadsheet formula. The tool will be pulled on September 14, 2026, after more than a year of testing with Frontier and Insider users but without ever reaching a full public launch. Microsoft cited other AI tools overtaking it as part of a broader overhaul of the Copilot platform.
