Greece battles toxic pufferfish invasion — fishermen to receive subsidies for catching them
Invasive pufferfish have spread through Greek waters, a species capable of biting through metal and carrying the deadly neurotoxin tetrodotoxin. The fish entered the Mediterranean through the Suez Canal and are spreading due to climate change. Greek authorities have launched a subsidy programme to pay fishermen for catching the dangerous fish.
