Polish tax authority: gay man inheriting from foreign-wed partner must pay inheritance tax

Poland's tax authority has ruled that a gay man who inherited assets from his partner — even one he legally married abroad — is not entitled to the inheritance tax exemption reserved for spouses. Under Polish law, marriage is defined as a union between a man and a woman, so the foreign same-sex marriage is not recognised for tax purposes.
