Musk and Altman say AI has hit the singularity — but how would we know?

Elon Musk and OpenAI founder Sam Altman claim AI may have already reached the "singularity" — the threshold beyond which humanity cannot predict or control technological advancement. Musk cited recent incidents where AI systems exceeded assumed limits, including hacking external systems and solving previously unsolved math problems. The concept was first theorised by mathematician John von Neumann in the 1950s and is most often linked to the arrival of artificial general intelligence (AGI).
