Trump orders Pentagon to scale back joint military drills with South Korea

President Trump directed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to substantially scale back joint military exercises with South Korea, just one day before the planned 11-day drills were set to begin. Trump argued the exercises are costly — largely paid for by the US — and send a "hostile" signal, citing South Korea's refusal to help with Iran's denuclearization. Trump also emphasised his "very good relationship" with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
