India replacing Su-30MKI's Russian radar with homegrown Virupaksha system

India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is developing a new radar called Virupaksha to replace the ageing Russian-origin radar on the Su-30MKI fighter jet. The new radar is expected to detect conventional fighters at 300–400 kilometres and stealth aircraft beyond 200 kilometres. The upgrade is a central element of the broader Super Sukhoi modernisation programme, which is awaiting final government approval.
