Smolińska steps in for Bukowiecka, but Poland miss relay medal — gold to Netherlands

Natalia Bukowiecka felt calf pain during the warm-up before the women's 4x400m relay final at the European Championships in Birmingham and withdrew from the squad. Hurdler Izabela Smolińska took her place, with Anastazja Kuś running the anchor leg. The reshuffled team could not contend for a medal, as the Netherlands took gold thanks to a superb run from Femke Bol.
