Tommy John, namesake of career-saving elbow surgery, dies aged 83
Tommy John, the baseball pitcher whose name became synonymous with a pioneering elbow ligament reconstruction surgery, has died at the age of 83. In a final social media post published by the New York Yankees on August 8, John wrote he wanted to say goodbye, adding: "I will never forget you." The surgery that bears his name has since saved the careers of countless athletes.
