Elena Rybakina defeated Taylor Townsend in 78 minutes in the first round of the WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati, booking a place in the second round. Townsend is the Roland Garros doubles champion. The Kazakh player will face Magdalena Fręch in the round of 32. Iga Świątek's match was scheduled later on the main court in Ohio.
