Dolphins trap fish in shells and teach the technique to their young

Bottlenose dolphins off Australia's east coast have been filmed using a remarkable hunting technique: herding fish into large sea snail shells, then lifting them above the water and shaking the prey into their mouths. Researchers at the University of Sunshine Coast captured the behaviour on camera — it had previously only been documented on the opposite side of the continent. The skill is passed on to offspring, providing evidence of cultural learning in the species.
