Security scare at European Athletics Championships traps athletes and fans at stadium until after midnight

A major security operation involving armed police was launched at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham during the European Athletics Championships on Saturday evening, leaving athletes and thousands of spectators stranded for well over an hour. Athletes including British sprinter Amy Hunt were unable to reach their hotels until after midnight. A man was arrested on suspicion of fraud in connection with the incident.
