Building blocks of life found in space: what's been discovered so far

The asteroid Bennu, sampled in 2023, contained all five nucleobases of DNA and RNA, along with 14 of the 20 amino acids used by living organisms. Its sibling asteroid Ryugu similarly yielded all five nucleobases, including uracil found in RNA. Scientists have also detected these building blocks on Mars and around young stars, with more missions planned to continue the search.
