UK MP calls for fossil export controls after prized Jurassic Coast collection sold to Abu Dhabi
A UK MP has called on ministers to update export controls so that significant fossils can be classified as national treasures, after one of the country's best fossil collections was sold abroad. The collection, comprising hundreds of specimens including ichthyosaurs unearthed on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset, was sold to the Natural History Museum in Abu Dhabi for what one source described as an eight-figure sum. The move has prompted calls to prevent unique natural finds from leaving Britain.
