Quantum tunnelling e-skin could give robots a human-like sense of touch

UK company Touchlab is developing an e-skin for robots using quantum tunnelling technology, designed to replicate the human sense of touch — including pressure, grip and texture. The innovation addresses a key gap in robotics: machines currently cannot tell whether an object is slipping, secure or about to be crushed. Target applications include home assistance, care and manufacturing.
