La Liga kicks off without Real Madrid and Barcelona — Alavés and Sevilla win
The new La Liga season opened on Saturday with Alavés beating Getafe 3-0 and Sevilla defeating Rayo Vallecano 2-1. Barcelona and Real Madrid will not play until the following weekend, as their players had extended stays at the World Cup. Other clubs therefore have a week's head start on the two giants.
