Maria Żodzik wins silver at European Athletics Championships despite near-withdrawal

Maria Żodzik claimed a silver medal in the high jump at the European Athletics Championships, Poland's seventh medal at the event. Only Ukraine's Yaroslava Mahuchikh finished ahead of her. Speaking after the competition, Żodzik revealed she had been in tears before the qualifying round and seriously considered withdrawing due to health problems. She pushed through and delivered one of the competition's top performances.
