Economist warns Germany risks wasting €700bn Bundeswehr modernisation fund on outdated weapons

Moritz Schularick, president of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, warned in an interview with Süddeutsche Zeitung that Germany's roughly €700 billion Bundeswehr modernisation programme risks being wasted. He argued that Berlin is channelling most of the funds into outdated weapons systems rather than future-oriented technologies. Schularick called for a fundamental shift in spending priorities.
