Abdominal fat predicts heart disease risk more accurately than BMI
New research published by the American College of Cardiology indicates that abdominal fat is a better predictor of heart disease risk than the widely used BMI metric. Waist circumference or waist-to-hip ratio more accurately reflects cardiovascular risk. The findings suggest doctors should routinely measure visceral fat when assessing heart disease risk.
