Kate O'Connor wins European heptathlon gold, Sułek-Schubert seventh

Ireland's Kate O'Connor claimed European Championship gold in the heptathlon in Birmingham. Poland's Adrianna Sułek-Schubert, returning to competition after giving birth, finished seventh; she fought for sixth place in the closing 800 m run but came up short. Two years earlier, a post-birth recovery had prevented her from defending her Munich silver medal.
