Europe's tallest Marian statue unveiled in Konotop — funded by billionaire Karkosik
A 55.6-metre statue of Our Lady of Mercy — the tallest Marian figure in Europe — was consecrated in Konotop, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. It was funded by billionaire Roman Karkosik as a votive offering for his recovery from illness. The consecration was performed by Bishop Krzysztof Wętkowski, with former President Lech Wałęsa among the guests. Thousands of faithful attended the lavish ceremony, which featured a VIP zone, helicopters and rose petals.
