Modi threatens 'intellectual Naxals' in Independence Day speech
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his Independence Day speech that the Maoist-inspired Naxalite armed rebellion has been largely suppressed, but warned that its ideological backers still pose a threat. He threatened to target so-called "intellectual Naxals" — those who support the insurgency on an ideological level. Naxalites are left-wing guerrillas who have been active in central India for decades.
