A hurricane warning was issued for Hawaii's Big Island as Tropical Storm Lala strengthened, posing a rare direct landfall threat to the archipelago. A tropical storm warning is also in effect for Maui County. Direct hurricane strikes on Hawaii are extremely uncommon.
