Brain "switch" explains how opposite GIP receptor actions both trigger weight loss

Scientists have discovered why activating and blocking the same brain receptor — GIP — can both lead to weight loss. In mice, activating the GIP receptor in the brainstem suppressed appetite, while blocking it in the hypothalamus removed a brake on fullness signals. The findings suggest that combining GIP-targeting drugs with GLP-1 treatments like Ozempic or Wegovy could produce stronger weight-loss effects.
