Top state Democrat convicted on federal corruption charges including bribery and fraud

A jury found top state Democrat Williams Stapleton, 69, guilty on federal corruption charges. He was indicted in March 2024 on more than three dozen counts, including mail fraud, bribery, money laundering, and conspiracy to defraud the federal government. The verdict was delivered following a corruption trial.
