Israeli leaders sympathize with settlers as army fails to protect Palestinians

Israeli Defence Minister Katz called on the military to transfer responsibility for protecting Palestinians to the police, following sieges of two West Bank families by violent settlers. The army has been criticised for failing to intervene, while several Israeli political leaders have expressed sympathy with the settlers rather than the victims. Violence by settlers in the West Bank has been escalating.
